KYIV – Ukraine's Prime Minister Mykola Azarov entrusted Kyiv's Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi to immediately stop violating the law on the protection of monuments with regard to the Kyiv Cave Monastery and the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. The prime minister demanded a temporary moratorium on the allocation of land plots and construction work within the protection zone of these national reserves. The prime minister also requested the mayor pass material regarding the violators to the police.
According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, Azarov insists on establishing a program for protecting the historic and cultural heritage of Kyiv as a component of the general plan of development of the capital.
